MRI Technology

The Imaging Department at Atlantic General Hospital is pleased to offer the latest in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to the community we serve. Our 1.5 T MRI unit has a powerful magnet, able to produce high resolution images, making it very sensitive in detecting disease. This scanner allows us to diagnose problems that otherwise would have required an invasive procedure, such as evaluation of a patient's bile ducts. In addition, this scanner can perform magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) tests to look for blockages in the arteries supplying the brain, kidneys and legs.

In support of AGH’s Stoke center of Excellence, new or recent strokes can be reliably detected by a process called diffusion imaging available on our MRI unit.

Best of all, because this MRI unit has a short-bore design of just four feet in length and has fast imaging time, patients do not feel as confined as they have in the past.

In keeping with our mission to provide high quality imaging services, our MRI unit is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR accreditation means we have met the rigorous testing standards of a nationally recognized review board, demonstrating our commitment to quality patient care.

A board-certified radiologist is on-site at AGH during scanning hours to tailor the exam. In addition, an image networking system allows us to send images to our radiologists after hours for emergency cases. Our technologists have all passed an additional registry examination. They are registered in x-ray as well as MRI.

To schedule an appointment, please have your doctor call the Central Scheduling Department at Atlantic General Hospital at 410-641-9714. If your doctor or provider cannot make the call, please be sure to have your prescription available. The associate scheduling your MRI will ask you questions about what is written on the order form.

Report
A radiologist will read your MRI and send the results to your health care provider. Your provider will go over your MRI results with you and discuss next steps.
