Berlin, Md. – Atlantic General Hospital’s health educators trained in
the Stanford University Diabetes Self-Management Workshop will be offering
the program throughout our region.
“The hospital has offered an American Diabetes Association-recognized
education program for years. This workshop is an extension and supplement
to those classes,” says Dawn Denton, AGH Community Education manager
at Atlantic General Hospital. “This class is appropriate for those
who are newly diagnosed as well as those who have had diabetes for a long
time. It is a perfect supplement to other educational programs on the disease.
From the Patient Education Research Center at Stanford University, the
Diabetes Self-Management Workshop is a six-week program for people with
diabetes and their caregivers.
This workshop is not intended to replace the relationship nor the advice
given to a patient by their physician. It is designed to help those affected
by diabetes better manage their disease. It helps participants cope with
challenges and lifestyle changes imposed by diabetes.
Some of the topics covered in this workshop:
- Healthy eating
- Preventing low blood Sugar (hypoglycemia)
- Preventing or delaying complications

This workshop is facilitated by two specially trained leaders, one or both
of whom have chronic diseases themselves. Classes are interactive and
