Atlantic General Hospital Participates in Maryland's Got You Covered
03-15-2010
On Thursday, April 1, Atlantic General Hospital is hosting an open enrollment
event for uninsured Marylanders to learn more about health coverage options
and help them fill out the forms.
Atlantic General joins other hospitals in this statewide initiative, coordinated
by the Maryland Hospital Association, which is designed to get more Marylanders
access to care.
“While our politicians in Washington are trying to restructure healthcare
to provide coverage for more people, many are not taking advantage of
existing healthcare benefits that they may be eligible for now,”
said Michael Franklin, president and CEO of Atlantic General. “Part
of our responsibility is to educate our community on the services and
benefits available to them.”
Nearly 800,000 people in Maryland are not insured. Due to the Working
Families and Small Business Health Care Coverage Act of 2007, more than
52,000 Marylanders are now insured.
“Marylanders with no health coverage still get sick, still have
accidents, and still need care,” said MHA President and CEO Carmela
Coyle. “Emergency departments are there to help, but we all know
that’s not the best way to get people the right primary care they
need, the chronic care they need, and get it at the right time and in
the right setting.”
The open enrollment event at Atlantic General is being held in the main
lobby of the hospital from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. For more information, please
