Atlantic General Hospital Receives ACR Accreditation
01-06-2010
Atlantic General Hospital’s full service imaging department has been
awarded a three-year term of accreditation for its open and closed MRI
as the result of a recent facility survey conducted by the American College
of Radiology (ACR).
Accreditation is voluntary, and those healthcare organizations who seek
this distinction receive evaluations for image quality and procedure by
board-certified radiologists and physicists who are experts in the field.
The accreditation program also evaluates the qualifications of staff,
adequacy of equipment, and quality control and assurance measures that
the facility has implemented.
“Peninsula Imaging, along with the hospital administration and staff,
is committed to provide the best up-to-date care for the patients in the
community,” said Dr. Assen Todorov, medical director of the imaging
department at Atlantic General. “This includes upholding the highest
standards set by the ACR. All of the radiologists in the group are board
certified and continue to stay current with new MRI protocols and exams
to best utilize the resources of the imaging department.”
Atlantic General Hospital’s imaging department offers a full complement
of MRI services, including breast MRI, with same-day appointment capability
and next-day results.
“The imaging department is practicing a culture of community commitment
and quality patient care. ACR accreditation is no easy accomplishment,
and for the MRI staff to take this challenge on and acquire this accreditation
–voluntarily – is remarkable,” said Jason Kampfer, director
of imaging at Atlantic General Hospital. “This excites me. As a
director, it shows the continued commitment the imaging department and
Atlantic General have made to our community with an ongoing promise to
provide the highest quality patient care possible.”
About ACR
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities
for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation
of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians
and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications
of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors
report their findings to the ACR’s Committee or accreditation, which
subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic
and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine
and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical
imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health
care services.
