Atlantic General Hospital to Host Penguin Swim Information Meeting

Atlantic General Hospital will host a one hour Penguin Swim information meeting at the Ocean Pines Branch of the Worcester County Library on Wednesday, October 29 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Please come out and learn how you can become a part of this fun event and help support the hospital.

On January 1, the beachfront of the Princess Royale Hotel on 91st Street in Ocean City will be crowded with hundreds of Penguin Swim participants and spectators ready to cheer them on as they plunge into the icy Atlantic to raise money for their community hospital.

Everyone is invited. Sign up as an individual, join a team – or form a new one – and take part in Atlantic General Hospital's 15th Annual Penguin Swim on New Year's Day. AGH's Penguin Swim Committee, chaired by Patricia Ilczuk-Lavanceau, has a fun-filled event planned for Penguins who are willing to take a dip in the Atlantic, and for all who want to cheer them on. Event day registration starts at noon on January 1, 2009 in the atrium at the Princess Royale, with the swim starting at 1p.m.

Prizes will be awarded to the brave Penguins who raise funds and get wet for a good cause. Penguins who raise $25 will have their choice of a beanie or coffee mug. Those who raise $75 will receive a silk screened long sleeve T-shirt. Penguins who raise $150 will receive a silk screened sweat shirt, and those who raise $250 will receive an embroidered bathrobe or two beach towels. Those raising $500 or more will receive one prize from each category.

First, second and third place trophies will be awarded to individual penguins who raise the most money, as well as to teams of penguins who raise the most money. Special recognition will be given to the youngest and oldest penguins.

The one hour information meeting scheduled for October 29 will provide an overview of the event and include information on the hospital and its mission, how to join or form a team, and tips on four successful fundraising methods. There will be an opportunity to register for the swim at the meeting.
