Atlantic General to Hold Groundbreaking for Health Center Expansion to Provide Vital Services
07-10-2008
Atlantic General Hospital announced today that it will hold an official
groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, July 23 to commence expansion and
renovation efforts of the Atlantic Health Center, a $1.4 million project.
Funded in part by a $700,000 matching grant from the Maryland Hospital
Association, the hospital has raised an additional $550,000 through commitments
made by the Worcester County Commissioners, the Ocean City Town Council
and the Berlin City Council.
When completed, the project will provide a home for the C.R.I.C.K.E.T.
Center, Worcester County’s first child advocacy center and the only
one on the Shore to offer onsite medical evaluations in addition to the
coordinated services of social welfare and law enforcement agencies.
The newly expanded Atlantic Health Center will also house a new outpatient
mental health program for Worcester County as well as a more comprehensive
diabetes program and upgraded facilities for the health clinic, which
provides primary care services to children and adults, regardless of the
ability to pay.
“The new Atlantic Health Center offers a rare and innovative opportunity
for the delivery of health services,” said Colleen Wareing, vice
president of patient care services at Atlantic General Hospital. “Through
the efforts of multiple organizations working collaboratively, patients
will have their health needs addressed in a coordinated, efficient and
holistic manner. With the location offering both physical and mental health
the patient’s total well being and health needs can be managed in
one center.”
The project is scheduled for completion in February 2009.
