2007 Penguin Swim a Success

Foul weather didn’t keep brave penguins away

The 13th Annual Penguin Swim saw a great turnout, despite the threat of wind and rain. Hundreds of spectators and penguins crowded the beach during a break in the weather to once again take a plunge in the icy Atlantic for a good cause.
The Bull on the Beach reigned supreme, again taking first prize in the team category for raising $30,000 for the Atlantic General Hospital Foundation. But, their generous contribution and fund raising efforts in no way outshined the countless others who turned in personal donations of even $25 for the chance to jump in the ocean on New Year’s Day. All came together to raise more than $58,000 for the hospital.

This year’s winners are as follows:
Team Category
First Place: Bull on the Beach, $30,000.00
Second Place: AGH Chilly Willies, $7046.50
Third Place: Ocean City Parrothead Club Plungers, $3892.00

Individual Category
First Place: Woody Butch German, Baltimore, $2,074.12
Second Place: (tied) Chelsey Trimper & Robb Mowery, Ocean City, $500 each
Third Place: (tied) Russell and Carrie Hall, Selbyville, De., $340 each

The youngest swimmer was one-year-old Brandon Anderson from Newark, Md. The oldest swimmer was Dana Cuba from Selbyville, De.

“We are always amazed and very thankful for the tremendous support we receive from the community on New Year’s Day,” said event organizers. “It’s a wonderful way to start a new year.”
