Community supporters are rewarded with fair weather on the greens
With 176 golfers and donations exceeding $70,000, the 2006 Atlantic General
Hospital Fall Golf Classic was by far the most successful in the tournament’s
13-year history. Increasing popularity of the late-September event led
to the expansion of the tourney from one course to two this year, opening
up Ocean City Golf Club’s Newport Bay and Seaside holes for play.
During an afternoon of sunny skies and warm breezes, golfers took to the
greens in support of Atlantic General Hospital and their mission to provide
quality healthcare – not mindful of the prizes to be had so much
as having a good time for a great cause.
The better golfers did emerge, however.
This year’s winners of best ball were teams representing Mercantile
Peninsula Bank, the Esham Family and Wilmington Trust. Peninsula Regional
Medical Center’s team took first place in the scramble, followed
by teams from Atlantic Orthopaedics at second and Nason Construction at
third. Josh Young won first place in the putting contest, taking home
the 50/50 cash pot.
The success of the classic is in large part due to Carousel Resort Hotel
and Condominiums, title sponsor once again this year, and the event’s
other generous sponsors. A full course dinner was donated by Carrabba’s
Italian Grill; Delmarva Collections was the golf cart sponsor and Comcast
Spotlight sponsored the Newport Bay Hospitality Cart.
