Local Gastroenterologists Discuss Liver Disease/Food Allergies at Summer Health Conference

Gastroenterologists Lee Klepper, MD, and Jerrold Canakis, MD, will join eleven other breakout speakers to educate visitors at the 8th Annual Visions for Total Health Conference on Saturday, August 26, 2006.

Don’t Forget the Liver

It is easy to overlook the liver and its importance to our health in the face of the overwhelming toll that heart disease and lung cancer are taking on this country. Yet, 25 million Americans, that’s one in every ten, are or have been affected by liver diseases or related disorders.

Dr. Klepper, of Atlantic Gastroenterology, will give a presentation, titled “Your Liver, Your Life,” that discusses this complex organ and its various roles in the body as well as how to keep the liver healthy.

What Are You Eating?

Food sensitivities and allergies can result in health effects that range from minor to debilitating or even fatal. However, they are not one and the same. Dr. Canakis, who has an extensive background in nutrition as well as digestive disorders such as Celiac and Crohn’s diseases, will discuss different allergies and sensitivities to common foods during his presentation, titled “What’s on Your Plate?”

Conference-goers will have to opportunity to hear Dr. Klepper and Dr. Canakis and pose questions during the morning’s breakout sessions. For a complete schedule of events, please visit www.atlanticgeneral.org and click on Visions for Total Health.
